JCB’s third-generation agricultural Loadall telescopic handlers are presented at Agritechnica for the first time, along with new chassis levelling control and air trailer braking options that join an already comprehensive equipment list.

Increased lift capacity of up to 200kg features among the Loadall Series III telehandler handler range, which comprises the 6.0 metre lift 538-60, the 7.0 metre 532-70 and 542-70, the 9.5 metre high-lift 536-95 and the heavy-lift, bulk handling 560-80.

The new Loadall Series III handlers are the culmination of a succession of significant product upgrades over the past six years that have reinforced JCB’s technology, performance and fuel-efficiency lead in the telescopic handler market. The new Command Plus cab adds class-leading interior space, noise levels, climate control and all-round visibility, with increased lift capacity and other new features adding to the machines’ productivity and capabilities.

Loadall Series III range

With the addition of the new JCB Loadall 532-60 with lift capacity of 3.2 tonne to 6.0 metres launched at Agritechnica, the Loadall Series III range now comprises six models with JCB EcoMAX engines providing a choice of power outputs.

There are 81kW and 93kW (109hp and 125hp) rating for the 4.4-litre version, while the 4.8-litre EcoMAX serves up 108kW (145hp) for the highest-specification machines, all with Euro Stage IV / US Tier 4 Final emissions compliance using selective catalytic injection (SCR) and a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC).

Transmissions matched to these engines start with the 33kph four-speed manual JCB Powershift and the new 40kph TorqueLock4 transmission with direct-drive torque converter lock-up in top gear.

The 40kph six-speed JCB Autoshift transmission provides auto or manual shifting control and direct-drive TorqueLock in the top two gears for efficient towing, while the unique JCB DualTech VT provides ‘best of both worlds’ performance by combining hydrostatic and powershift elements in one transmission.

Sway Control

The new Sway Control levelling system introduced at Agritechnica uses a double-acting hydraulic cylinder attached to the chassis and front axle that enables the operator to adjust the machine to a vertical position before raising the boom on a cross-slope or uneven surface.

Sway Control is available on AGRI Plus and AGRI Super versions of the Loadall 542-70 (4.2 tonnes to 7.0 metres) and high-lift 536-95 (3.6 tonne max lift, 1.60 tonne to 9.50 metres) and is operated under electro-hydraulic control from the cab for working on rough terrain and sloping ground.

Air trailer braking

All JCB Loadall Series III telescopic handlers have twin-line hydraulic trailer brakes with seven-pin electrics and an electronic braking system (EBS) socket.

Options, which may be territory dependent, now also include twin-line air trailer braking with seven-pin electrics and an anti-lock braking (ABS) socket, and a combination of twin-line air and single-line hydraulic braking for trailed equipment.

Command Plus cab

All JCB Loadall Series III telehandlers feature the new Command Plus cab, which provides operators with unrivalled quietness and all-round visibility, plus more dedicated storage space, improved ventilation, and new controls and instruments.

John Smith said: “When operators climb aboard a Loadall Series III telehandler they will find the same adjustable Dynamic Tilt Away steering column, the same ventilation layout and controls, and the same function-grouped switches as on the JCB Fastrac tractors and wheeled loaders. That familiarity makes it easier for operators to find their way around the multitude of controls needed on modern machinery, and to use the machine in the most productive ways possible.

Designed solely with agricultural operators and owner-drivers in mind, the Command Plus cab  results from detailed engineering and ergonomics studies, and an unprecedented programme of international end-user consultation, to meet the visibility, comfort, control and practical demands of discerning operators.

It is 50% quieter than the previous design with a best-in-class 69dBA rating, 12% larger inside, and has 60% more dedicated storage space, including a unique lift-out bin behind the seat for documents, tools, food and drink, to make the Command Plus cab a more convenient place to work.

Operator visibility upwards to a raised boom and attachment has been transformed by eliminating the cab roof front cross-member to effectively increase the glazed area by 14% so that operators can place or retrieve loads more easily, confidently and comfortably.

A large pantograph front wiper and two roof-mounted wipers sweep 92% of the curved windscreen glass, and with airflow increased by 10% and air distribution optimised, the ventilation system provides 66% faster demisting and defrosting so the machine can be put to work rapidly on winter mornings, and the operator has greater control over the working environment.

A wide door opening and adjustable push-away steering column with working position memory make it easy for operators to enter and exit the cab, while the lack of bare metal inside raises the quality feel and helps in achieving the remarkably low noise level.

The larger, more informative tablet-like digital instrument display is attached to the windscreen glass and there is a mobile phone holder, Bluetooth, integrated microphone and speakers for hands-free calls and entertainment.
