What can I do to maximise the life of my engine?

The engine life can be maximised by following the JCB maintenance schedule and servicing using genuine JCB parts and lubricants. Over time, JCB engines can also be overhauled and rebuilt to extend their working life.

What applications can be powered by a JCB engine?

Almost any off-highway application can be supported. Our sales and applications team are here to support the selection of the right engine for the right application.

If my engine is left idling, or operated under light load will it damage the engine?

Yes, prolonged periods of low engine load can damage the engine and may cause glazing to the bores. For Tier 4 engines you could prematurely poison the SCR cannister and on Stage V engines you could significantly block the DPF.

What does the engine rating mean?

The engine rating is the maximum mechanical power output of the engine. There is no limit to how long JCB engines can operate at full rated power for, however the recommended duty cycle is an average of 75% of rated power.

What are the power ratings of the JCB engine range?

JCB engines are available in many different power ratings and emissions levels, from 55kW to 212kW (74-284hp). Emissions levels range from UNII through to EU Stage V with Tier 4 certification for the US.

Do JCB engines share the same mounting points between emission levels?

Yes, JCB engines have been designed with high levels of commonality across all engine platforms (with exception of our smallest engine, the JCB 430).

What is Stage V?

Stage V is the sixth in a series of legislative stages which began in 1996, to reduce the following pollutants:

  • NOx: Nitrogen Oxides
  • PM: Particulate Matter
  • CO: Carbon Monoxide
  • HC: Hydrocarbons

The key changes for Stage V are reductions in particulate mass by approximately 40% and the introduction of particulate count.

Why Stage V engines?

EU Stage V is the latest stage of engine emissions legislation designed to reduce pollution from off-highways machines, affecting European territories only. In order to meet these guidelines, Autostop and DPF has been introduced across all applicable models.

What specifications of fuels and lubricants are required for a JCB engine?

Recommended fluids vary depending on the engine type, environment and application. Consult your JCB engine distributor or JCB machine dealer for more information.

What is Autostop?

Autostop helps reduce fuel consumption by automatically shutting down the machine when not in use as well as preventing excessive idle times, which reduce machine clock hours. It is operator configurable using the easy to use intuitive interface, allowing working patterns to be taken into consideration.
