JCB Microgrid: the future of power on-site
The demand for clean power only continues to grow, with many businesses searching for a diesel alternative to power projects and meet net zero goals. Let’s take a look at how JCB Microgrid works – and how this versatile hydrogen power generator is shaping the future.
What is JCB Microgrid and how does it work?
JCB Microgrid is an on-site clean power hub that delivers the same power and performance as a diesel-powered generator, only it’s powered by a zero carbon fuel: hydrogen. It works by combining a hydrogen powered generator with the JCB 3-Phase Powerpack and your own renewables, turning the powerpack into the clean power hub – with the genset acting as a battery charger.
The components of JCB Microgrid
The JCB hydrogen generator
- The first component of JCB Microgrid is G60RS H. This is our hybrid generator, powered by the pioneering JCB hydrogen combustion engine. It’s at the forefront of hydrogen generators in the UK and beyond.
The JCB Powerpack
- Secondly, we have our electric powerpacks – a range of storage solutions with zero emissions, zero noise, and zero compromise. They provide a fully electric mobile power unit in single and three-phase power outputs, using high-capacity lithium-ion batteries.
Your own renewables
- Combine our hydrogen generator and powerpack with your own renewables to produce a fully functioning power unit that will help you work towards a hydrogen future.
What are the benefits of JCB Microgrid?
- Zero emissions: Powered by zero carbon fuel and renewables, JCB Microgrid is a clean, accessible alternative to diesel, helping you work towards net zero targets.
- Maximum efficiency: Experience long periods of silent operation with less fuel costs.
- Versatility: Ideal for powering site cabins and event sites, as well as charging electric site machinery.
- Smart operation: Smart management features like timed socket controls allows overnight loads to be turned off when not being used. Plus, the powerpack allows you to integrate onsite renewables like solar panels into the Microgrid system.
Where might JCB Microgrid be used?
JCB Microgrid is a highly adaptable hydrogen electric generator, making it ideal of all kinds of worksites, industries and environments. It has the capability to power welfare units, recharge electric machines and much more.
It’s especially beneficial for construction sites where you may be relying on diesel power, because this is often where you may find there aren’t sufficient or accessible grid connections for the electric alternative.
Building a hydrogen future
At JCB, we’ve been committed to exploring hydrogen power all over the world for decades, investing more than £100 million into JCB hydrogen on our road to zero. Not only were we the first construction company to create a fully working combustion engine fuelled by hydrogen, we’ve also built over 120 hydrogen engines in our testing and development programme.
Our continued investment in clean power technology puts us at the forefront of industry developments – and makes us a trusted name in machinery, all over the world.
