One hundred strong
Scott’s Hire strengthens its nationwide fleet with more than 100 new JCB machines as demand continues to grow. Across the UK, Scott’s Hire machines are a familiar sight on site and that presence is about to grow even further.
The latest expansion comes in the form of more than 100 new JCB machines joining its fleet. The major investment reflects both the company’s ambitious growth plans and a partnership with JCB that has been helping power its operations for more than two decades.
With over 2,000 assets available for hire across its general plant hire, specialist vehicle hire and towable welfare divisions, Scott’s Hire has grown into one of the UK’s leading independent plant hire specialists, delivering nationwide coverage to customers across the construction sector.
Now the business is preparing for the next stage of its journey, backed by a hundred new machines ready to get to work.
Two decades of trust
Scott’s Hire has worked with JCB for more than two decades, investing in over 500 machines during that time. For Operations Manager Marc Jackson, the decision to continue that relationship is rooted in more than just the machines themselves.
“We choose JCB for the all-round service offering it provides,” he explains. “You get market-leading machines backed by excellent dealer support and strong residual values. It is also good to know we are supporting jobs close to home, with the machines built in Staffordshire.
“We have been buying JCB machines for around 20 years now. During that time we have run all kinds of equipment as the company has grown and evolved. Our local dealer Gunn JCB has always offered excellent support and communication, which helps us plan our fleet replenishment more effectively.”
One hundred more reasons
Scott’s Hire’s latest investment includes 80 Loadall telescopic handlers, covering a range of popular models including the 525-60, 531-70, 535-95, 540-140 and 540-180.
Alongside the telehandlers, the company has also expanded its excavator fleet with ten 131X, six 145XR and four 245XR tracked excavators, reflecting growing demand for these machines across customer projects.
For Scott’s Hire, the decision to invest heavily in both machine ranges is driven by customer demand and positive operator feedback.
“JCB is synonymous with building the world’s best Loadall telescopic handlers,” says Marc. “They offer the reliability and safety customers expect on site and we want to be known for providing modern, dependable machines that contractors can rely on.
“We have always operated a fleet of JCB telehandlers. But after receiving excellent feedback from operators on the excavators we introduced last year, we decided to expand that part of the fleet too.”
That expansion means Scott’s Hire now offers a wider excavator range than it has ever done before.
“The machines have been widely praised across the industry and directly by our customers,” Marc continues. “That gave us the confidence to grow our excavator offering from just two models to five different machines ranging from 13 to 25 tonnes.”
Power in tight spaces
Among the new additions, the JCB 145XR reduced tailswing excavator has quickly attracted particular interest.
The model builds on the success of JCB’s larger 245XR, delivering strong performance while maintaining a compact design with minimal counterweight swing. Its ultra-tight slew radius makes it especially well-suited to working on confined sites where space is limited.
“Reliability across the excavators has been excellent so far,” Marc adds. “In particular the 145XR has been requested by name by some customers because of the balance it offers between machine size and performance, especially on tighter job sites.”
A classy century
With more than 100 new machines arriving into the fleet over the coming months, Scott’s Hire is preparing for a busy period ahead.
For a business built on reliability and long-term customer relationships, continuing to invest in modern equipment is essential. Expanding both the Loadall and excavator fleets ensures customers have access to the machines they ask for most, backed by the support and service they expect.
For Scott’s Hire, the latest order represents more than fleet growth. It marks the next stage in a 20-year partnership with JCB that has already seen more than 500 machines join the business.
And with a fresh fleet of machines heading out to work, the company is making sure the next chapter of its growth is built on the same foundations that got it here.
