Jack masters all trades

4CX PRO Jack Elliott Groundworks

Jack Elliott Groundworks is putting JCB’s Backhoe Loader DualDrive feature to work across a wide range of applications across South Yorkshire.

On a busy groundworks site, efficiency often comes down to how quickly a machine can adapt to the task in front of it.

For Jack Elliott Groundworks Ltd, that adaptability has long come from the JCB Backhoe Loader. Now, with the addition of DualDrive, that flexibility has taken another step forward.

Based in Barnsley, the company is using a JCB 4CX PRO DualDrive model across a variety of groundworks applications, where the ability to reposition quickly and work efficiently is making a noticeable difference on site.

A Proven Performer

While DualDrive is a recent addition, the Backhoe Loader itself has been a mainstay of Jack Elliott’s fleet for years.

“I started my business in 2007 with a small mini digger and it’s grown from there. We now operate 12 machines,” he explains.

“We’ve always found backhoes to be incredibly versatile. They can carry out a wide range of tasks and are very cost efficient to run. We use them across lots of different applications, so they’ve always been a solid investment for us.”

A Smarter Way to Work

DualDrive builds on that versatility by allowing the operator to drive and reposition the machine while facing the excavator, removing the need to constantly turn the seat.

On site, that translates into faster cycles and less operator fatigue.

“DualDrive adds value in a number of ways,” says Jack. “It reduces fatigue and cuts the time it takes to complete tasks. Repositioning can now be done in seconds.

“Previously, you’d lift the bucket, turn the seat, raise the stabilisers and then drive forward. Now you can do multiple actions at the same time. It makes the job quicker, easier and far more efficient. We’ve definitely seen a big increase in productivity.”

That shift in efficiency has already changed how the business approaches its fleet decisions.

“In future, we’d always choose a DualDrive machine. We wouldn’t consider going back to a standard backhoe now because of the advantages it gives us. We’re still finding new ways to use it across different jobs.”

Alongside DualDrive, the JCB 4CX PRO includes a range of operator-focused features such as a single loader lever, revised direction control, return-to-grade functionality and an upgraded quickhitch with wider fork carriage - all designed to improve ease of use and performance on site.

Turning Heads on Site

For a business that offers operated plant hire, machine performance is only part of the picture. Customer perception matters too.

The 4CX PRO with DualDrive is already making an impression.

“We’ve had a lot of positive feedback,” Jack explains. “Customers are often surprised by how it combines the flexibility of a wheeled excavator with the versatility of a loader.

“It’s something they haven’t seen before and it definitely stands out on site. It’s good to know the investment is getting that kind of response and we expect it to support our business as we move forward.”

Setting New Standards

With the latest machine already proving its value, Jack Elliott is clear about the direction of travel for the business.

“Having DualDrive on our Backhoe has brought clear benefits in terms of time savings, productivity, comfort and efficiency,” he says. “Our next machine will definitely be another DualDrive.”

On a site where every movement counts, that ability to do more, in less time, is what sets the machine apart. And for Jack Elliott Groundworks, JCB DualDrive has become the new standard.
