Built to last
A quarter-century of groundwork, growth and great machines – DAB Civil Engineering celebrates 25 years with a special JCB delivery.
A freshly signwritten trio of JCB 140X excavators are a fitting anniversary present for a company that’s built its reputation on solid foundations. For DAB Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd and its sister company DAB Plant Hire & Sales Ltd, this year marks 25 years in business. And in true DAB style, they’ve marked the milestone with JCB machines.
Founded in November 2000, the Leicester-based firm has grown into a major player in residential, commercial and industrial groundwork projects – from housing estates to infrastructure and enabling works. Across the decades, there’s been one constant: the JCB name on the side of the machines. From the first 3CXs to the latest 140X tracked excavators, it’s been a relationship built on shared values of reliability, innovation and local support.
Celebrating 25 years with JCB
DAB Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd, supported by DAB Plant Hire & Sales Ltd, was founded in November 2000 and specialises in civil engineering and groundworks within the residential, commercial and industrial sectors of the UK construction industry, including large scale enabling and infrastructure projects for some of the UK’s most renowned housing developers and commercial builders.
It employs in excess of 120 people and runs a range of JCB equipment including compact and tracked excavators from 3.5-tonne to 14-tonne, 6 and 9-tonne cabbed site dumpers and a series of soil compactors – all supplied by local dealer, Watling JCB.
The company has just celebrated 25 years in business and has marked this milestone with the purchase of three JCB 140X tracked excavators which have been signwritten with special livery to mark the occasion.
A machine worth celebrating
For a company that has been buying JCB since day one, it was only fitting when it came to celebrating this impressive anniversary, that it would do so with an investment in one of its trusted partner’s most reliable and high-performing machines, from the ever-popular X Series range.
DAB Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd Owner/Director, Dan Doherty said: “We choose JCB because of the consistent innovation of its products and their build quality. They are user friendly and we only receive positive feedback from our operators. Also, we receive excellent service from Watling JCB and we are happy to partner with another Leicester-based company.
DAB Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd Owner/Director, Mick Merrigan furthers: “The JCB 140Xs are an excellent machine to use for digging foundations and localised earthworks. The dumpers are user friendly and easy to maintain and both are extremely reliable. We have run the 140Xs for three years now and have had nothing but positive comments. Operators have praised the machine in terms of comfort in operations and within the cab, for the stability, smooth control and the power.”
The JCB 140X boasts a spacious, industry-leading CommandPlus cab with Grammer seat, ensuring operator comfort during long shifts. Its double cushion viscous mounts deliver a low in-cab noise level of 67dB(A), creating a quieter working environment. The machine's large diameter hydraulic pipes and hoses enhance productivity and efficiency, while the innovative hydraulic regeneration system recycles oil across the cylinders, contributing to fuel savings of up to 5%.
The complete package
Twenty-five years is a long time in business, and DAB Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd has watched the company evolve to echo the changes in the construction industry in that time, but through everything their valued supplier JCB has been there every step of the way.
As Dan Doherty said: “We have been using JCB since the company began in 2000. A fleet of JCB 3CXs played a major part. Over the last 12 years we have purchased machines spanning from 3.5-25-tonnes. Our relationship with our salesman at Watling JCB goes back over ten years and he is always the first person we contact when we send out an enquiry from a bulk plant or equipment order.
“Since the company started, I would say we have purchased over 30 machines, inclusive of excavators, 3CXs, dumpers and rollers. We have a longstanding relationship with a local dealership. They have a very friendly approach. They are always very competitive at point of enquiry which in turn puts them in a great position to secure the deal. They also offer a solid aftersales service so it’s the complete package.”
Another 25 years
The new year signals a time to reflect on successes and to look ahead to the future and the potential for growth – with its latest investment DAB Civils is certainly poised to propel itself into another 25 years of shared success with JCB.
