Built on legacy
Two milestones. Two special machines. One shared history. Tru7 Group celebrates 60 years of the Nicholls family business with JCB’s exclusive 80th anniversary machines. Some machines earn their place on site. Others earn their place in a company’s story.
For Tru7 Group, securing two of JCB’s limited edition 80th anniversary machines is about more than fleet expansion. As the Nicholls family marks 60 years in business, the arrival of a satin black 4CX Pro DualDrive Backhoe Loader and 542-70 AGRIPRO Loadall telescopic handler stands as a symbol of parallel progress between two family-run British companies.
Parallel progress
To celebrate eight decades of British engineering excellence, JCB produced just 80 anniversary machines - forty 4CX Pro DualDrive Backhoe Loaders and forty 542-70 AGRIPRO Loadalls. Finished in satin black with chrome decals and distinctive yellow highlights, they feature exclusive 80th edition embroidered seats, plaques and detailing that make them instantly recognisable.
For Tru7 Group, the timing was significant. Jake Nicholls, CEO, Tru7 Group, said: "For us at Tru7 Group, securing JCB’s 80th Anniversary limited edition machines is far more than just a purchase. It’s a moment of reflection on the journey that has shaped both our businesses. The relationship between JCB and the Nicholls family spans three generations, built on shared values, mutual respect and a commitment to driving British construction forward.
“As JCB celebrated 80 years of engineering excellence, we’re marking our own 60-year milestone and these machines stand as a powerful symbol of that parallel progress. They honour the legacy of two family-run British companies that have grown side by side, and they embody the innovation, resilience and pride that define our industry.”
It is a relationship that stretches back decades. As previously shared, the Nicholls family has a long history of buying JCB machinery, particularly its telescopic handlers. One of their earlier businesses operated by far the largest fleet in Europe and probably the world at the time. That heritage continues today under the Tru7 banner.
Engineering that endures
While the anniversary finish turns heads, these machines remain serious working tools.
The 4CX Pro DualDrive combines JCB’s proven backhoe capability with the flexibility of DualDrive, allowing operators to drive the machine from the loader position for improved visibility and site efficiency. It remains one of the most versatile machines in construction, equally at home on infrastructure projects or tight urban developments.
Alongside it, the 542-70 AGRIPRO Loadall brings high performance materials handling with smooth powershift transmission, strong lift capacity and the comfort operators expect from JCB’s CommandPlus cab environment. It is a machine designed to deliver productivity day in, day out - anniversary detailing included.
A family business, still building
The Nicholls family business dates back over 60 years and has evolved significantly over that time. What began as a plant-focused operation has grown into Tru7 Group - a Suffolk-based construction group spanning demolition, remediation, earthworks, asbestos removal, concrete and aggregates, alongside van, truck and plant sales and rental.
Across this ever-broadening range of services, Tru7 Group has built a high-profile client list including Suffolk Highways, HS2, Morgan Sindall, Balfour Beatty, RG Carter, Barnes Construction and Suffolk County Council.
Through that growth, one constant has remained: investing in quality machinery and maintaining strong, trusted partnerships.
More than a milestone
For Tru7 Group, the 60-year mark is not about looking back with nostalgia. It is about recognising the foundations that have made continued growth possible. The satin black machines may commemorate 80 years of JCB, but they also represent three generations of collaboration between the Nicholls family and the JCB brand.
