Sparking interest
The silent JCB machine that is making all the right noises.
JCB’s new electric micro excavator is the latest addition to its growing E-TECH range. With no need for engine oil or diesel filters, low noise levels and no tailpipe emissions, it’s a perfect match for sensitive sites and plant hire customers looking to make the switch.
Hire Intelligence
“We bought the JCB 8008E CTS after receiving a number of enquiries from customers about electric diggers for working inside buildings. We’ve been very impressed with the new model. We started buying JCB machines in 2010 as it’s a well-known brand and we’ve stuck with them ever since. With JCB you get the whole package, the service is very good and they’re great to deal with.”

Tidy Operator
Despite being battery powered, the 8008E CTS delivers the same performance as its diesel counterpart. Built on the same chassis and equipped with the same dig-end, it delivers up to a full day's work from its 9.9kWh battery and charges in as little as three hours. It also features an extending undercarriage for extra stability and comes with both 110V and 230V charging capability.
From the seat, the only visible difference is a simplified dash layout, showing key information like charge level and power status. The result is a machine that feels familiar to operate but can access new areas.
Fleet favourite
Wetherby Tool & Plant Hire was founded in 2010 and now operates from three depots in Wetherby, Harrogate and Leeds. Their extensive line-up includes over 70 JCB machines, ranging from Dumpsters and micro excavators to Loadalls and compaction rollers.
The new 8008E CTS slots in neatly, offering something genuinely different for domestic and commercial customers alike. With zero tailpipe emissions and quiet operation, it’s ideal for indoor jobs, urban work and noise-sensitive environments and it is easy to maintain too which is good news for hire businesses given the rigours of the rental market.
Switched on
For Wetherby Tool & Plant Hire, it’s clear that going electric isn’t just about ticking a box. It’s about giving customers more choice and keeping the fleet future-ready. Although the quietest machine on site, it already has people talking.
