Electric contract winner
With six depots in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Cirencester, Worcester and Ross on Wye. The company specialises in plant hire and also offers comprehensive access, scaffolding, welfare and site security hire backed by servicing, repairs, sales and training.
Central to this is an impressive JCB fleet comprising excavators, one, three and six-tonne site dumpers, 6m, 9m and 12m Loadall telescopic handlers, Teletruks and hydraulic breakers.
The latest addition is a new JCB 19C-1E - the industry’s first ever fully electric mini excavator. It is part of JCB’s E-TECH range of electric equipment with zero emissions at the point of use and no compromise on performance.
Strength & reliability guranteed
Ermin Plant works with a broad range of customers, from large contractors to smaller builders and DIY customers so it is integral that they operate a wide range of both small and larger plant to satisfy all demographics.
With full access to JCB’s extensive range through local dealer Holt JCB, Ermin ensures that its customers are presented with not only a full line-up of products to choose from, but also consistently superior quality which minimises downtime and maximises productivity.
“JCB is a well-known brand that continues to innovate and offer quality equipment. We get good support from our local dealer and JCB staff are always easily contactable. The relationship with Holt JCB is very important to maintaining our hire fleet and keeping downtime to a minimum. Having Holt JCB to lean on is integral to operating a large plant fleet. Ermin has had a long relationship with JCB ever since the ‘70s and we have always carried its machines in our hire fleet. Having good, strong contacts with sales and parts at JCB is part of the appeal as we know we can always get a quick response and answers to questions or quotations. Operationally it is important that we have confidence in the reliability of the machines and JCB certainly provide that with all of the equipment we have bought. In our industry the machines do take some punishment and JCB machines certainly stand up to the rigours of the hire trade and provide a durable option when looking for rental machinery.”
Mark Davis | Ermin Plant’s Operations Director
Green and Lean
While Ermin Plant boasts a large and varied range of JCB equipment in its rental fleet, the fully electric JCB 19C-1E certainly offers something a little different. It appeals to their more green-minded customers, who still demand the performance.
The JCB 19C-1E is the world’s first electric mini excavator with zero exhaust emissions at point of use and considerably quieter than a standard machine. Four lithium-ion batteries provide 20kWh of energy storage – enough for full working shift for the majority of mini excavator customers on a single charge.
As Mark Davis said: “We wanted to add this to our fleet to open up a different market for customers that wanted an environmentally friendly and more economical machine. Customers are changing habits and by providing this option we can ensure that we remain relevant when it comes to customers wanting a “greener” machine and a machine that can still operate in challenging environments.
“It is proving extremely popular and is helping us land projects in noise sensitive areas such as schools and urban environments.”
Quietly powerful
Despite being entirely battery-electric, the 19C-1E is just as powerful as its diesel counterpart yet is quieter which allows the machine to work at night or in sensitive areas and can work for a full day on a single charge.
Mark Davis adds: “We’re really impressed with the performance of this machine, it’s quiet running, definitely has more than enough power, works well with a breaker attachment, it holds its charge well and charges quickly when required.”
And importantly, Ermin’s customers seem equally impressed: “We have asked our customers who have hired it for their feedback and we have had not one negative comment. All have been impressed and have expressed their surprise at how well it compares to a diesel version. The quiet operation of the machine is a big hit as well as not having to rely on refuelling.”
Future proof
Ermin Plant has been dominating plant hire in the South-West for almost 60 years. Now it is expanding into electric to meet current demands. It looks well placed to charge into the future.
