Decades of dependability

When The Malcolm Group recently added a pair of JCB 145XRs to its fleet, it marked the latest chapter in a six-decade relationship built on trust, innovation and hard graft.

From site work and recycling to rail and logistics, The Malcolm Group’s operations span the UK – and JCB machines have been there every step of the way.

Headquartered in Linwood, Scotland, the company is one of JCB’s most longstanding customers, having purchased JCB equipment since the 1960s. With origins dating back to the early 1900s, The Malcolm Group has grown into one of the UK’s leading providers of logistics, construction and maintenance services.

Today, it operates across a wide range of sectors, including logistics, rail freight, construction and civil engineering, quarrying, waste management and plant hire. With a workforce of around 2,000 employees and a substantial, modern fleet, The Malcolm Group supports major public and private sector projects across the UK. Its high-profile works include the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the Wave Garden in Edinburgh, and the new training ground for Kilmarnock FC.

It's latest JCB 145XR tracked excavators join an extensive fleet which already includes JCB tracked and wheeled excavators, backhoe loaders, telehandlers, rollers, dumpers, forklifts and scissor lifts.

Short swing, big impact

Engineered to meet the evolving needs of operators, the JCB 145XR tracked excavator is the latest model in the X Series range - delivering the same strength and performance as the 140X, but with a compact, 27% shorter tailswing design.

These latest additions are already proving a perfect fit for the Group’s diverse range of projects.

Building on the success of the larger 245XR, the 145XR’s reduced counterweight swing and ultra-tight slew radius make it ideal for use on highway projects and urban sites where space is limited.

“Our JCB machines are used year-round for a variety of applications including construction, quarrying, recycling and general site maintenance. We chose the 145XR for its zero tailswing capability, which allows safe and efficient operation in confined spaces. The performance so far has been excellent with no issues at all. Our operators describe it as a very comfortable machine with plenty of power. The zero tailswing design is particularly valued for its ability to work in restricted areas safely.”
