For 25 years, Dave Nye and the team at DKN Services has been installing high-quality loading bays and megadoors across the UK. Building on his background working for Assa Abloy, Dave set DKN Services up to grow his own business – and it’s become quite the family affair.

Family comes first: Building a thriving business with JCB at the heart
Since starting the business over two decades ago, Dave always knew he wanted his family involved. The 8-strong team now includes his son and daughter, who cut their teeth in the business during weekends and work experience stints, and that’s one of the thing Dave loves most about the business. For this family, loading bays are a regular dinner table topic, which Dave says makes them “a happy, lucky family”.
While some family arguments are inevitable in the day-to-day, they do all agree that JCB surpasses competitors in quality and performance. They’re loyal JCB customers, and as Dave says it’s always stipulated that they only have JCB telehandlers onsite.
A constant 52 weeks a year: Loadall Does the Heavy Lifting
DKN Services mainly uses the 12.5m JCB Loadall Telehandler as the versatile piece of equipment for a range of applications. The uses typically includes putting in dock levellers, fitting them into the docks and welding them in. Next, they fit the door by offloading the trailer and moving the materials to a safe area, all with the help of the Loadall.
On the controls, Dave says JCB’s go above and beyond competitors: “The controls are far better than the competitors. The sway we really use a lot, and the versatility and the weight capacity are far better on the JCB than the competitors.”
Confidence in the JCB machine, day after day
For Dave, confidence in his machinery is everything. With safety and performance onsite being of paramount importance, there’s no room for inferior equipment that can’t stand up to the test. Dave relies on JCB to surpass the heights of other machines, confidently reaching the full 12.5m lifting height. He appreciates being able to use all of the ability of his machine, from lifting height to capacity, all year round.
Growing the business for the future
Dave is proud of the business he’s building at DKN Services. Dave is an NVQ ambassador, supporting young people into work across all areas of business. From high-speed doors to electrics and welding, DKN Services gives young people experience working with all kinds of equipment – but it’s his son Jack who’s the real JCB ambassador.
“I’m proud of him, he can get the JCB into places that even I would think twice about. More often than now, Jack takes the reins when it comes to driving the truck and he's very good at it.”
