A cricket club which sits at the heart of the community of Ashbourne has been given a £750 boost by JCB. The cash injection has been used to help fund a rain cover for the pitch on Cokayne Avenue.

The club is home to two senior and four junior cricket teams and shares facilities with local football and rugby clubs.

Cricket player Marcus Bateman, who also runs the club's website, said: “Ashbourne Cricket Club is really well loved and well used by local people. It sits in the centre of the town and is an important focal point for recreational activities.

“The players took over the majority of the pitch maintenance a couple of years ago and this protective cover will help us to make sure it is in good condition for match days and that we lose less matches due to poor weather.

“I'd like to thank JCB for donating the money and supporting such an important community facility.”
