The JCB 18Z-1 and 19C-1 mini excavators have received a 2018 Innovative Iron Award from Compact Equipment magazine. The award recognizes that the 4,211 lb (1.9 tonne) 19C-1 conventional tailswing excavator and 3,856 lb (1.8 tonne) 18Z-1 zero tailswing excavator are “more durable, require less maintenance and are safer to use than comparable 1- to 2-ton compacts” and are “rental ready”.

Launched in June 2018, the JCB 18Z-1 and 19C-1 mini excavators are designed for maximum durability and simplified maintenance, and share common features, including:

• All-steel bodywork for maximum impact protection.

• Rental-ready, durable design with protection for hydraulic rams and hoses.

• 500-hour greasing intervals to minimize operator burden and reduce downtime.

• Swing-out counterweight to provide full access to the engine bay; separate service access door to perform daily checks.

• Integrated tie-down points to aid transportation without damaging the tracks.

• Two-year/2,000-hour warranty.

“The all-new JCB 18Z-1 and 19C-1 mini excavators are designed to keep operators and others safe, to deliver plenty of usable power and reduce operating and ownership costs,” said Ashby Graham, general manager of Product at JCB North America. “Mini excavators are the workhorses of many rental and construction operations, and the durability, serviceability and transportability of JCB’s18Z and 19C models can have a real impact on business performance.”

Less servicing, more performance

JCB’s 18Z-1 and 19C-1 mini excavators feature a 23.1 hp (17.2 kW) Perkins diesel engine which is accessed via a rear, swing-out counterweight. A separate door provides access to daily check points. Boom and dipper pins have 500-hour greasing intervals for reduced downtime. All body panels are constructed of steel, for enhanced protection.

The machines also share a next-generation, four-plate boom and dipper design. Two dipper arm lengths are available: 3 feet 1 inch (950 mm) or 3 feet 7 inches (1,100 mm). The 5-foot-9 (1,800 mm) main boom features a top-mounted ram to protect the hydraulic cylinder.

Safety and comfort built in

The JCB 18Z-1 and 19C-1 mini excavators are among the most comfortable and safest on the market. The cab and canopy structures provide more interior space—with more leg and shoulder room—and are ROPS (rollover protection system)-compliant. An improved seating position contributes to better all-round visibility.
