JCB CASE STUDY: JCB Compact Track Loaders Polish the Path to Success

A Cut Above customer testimonial

Twenty years ago, Javier Lopez identified an opportunity in the concrete and construction industry that has since grown into a burgeoning business. Back then, the process used by contractors to grind and polish concrete floors for commercial warehouses and “big-box” retailers was labor-intensive and required refreshing every 8 to 12 months.

Lopez knew there had to be a better way, and he set about developing a more labor-efficient process, to produce a more durable finish and eliminate the need for return servicing.

While Lopez tested and refined his new process, it became evident that concrete polishing machines commonly used at that time were not efficient enough to be cost effective, or reliable enough to build a viable, sustainable business. In Lopez’s search for a faster, more efficient, sturdy and dependable machine, he discovered JCB skid steer loaders. With exceptional visibility, high hydraulic pressure, exceptional durability and low emissions, Lopez believed he had found an unconventional solution to his unique indoor application.

After additional research and a friend’s endorsement, Lopez purchased his first JCB 320T compact track loader in 2015, and quickly realized that it was the right machine for the job. With a hydraulic flow rate of 33 gpm, and a 74 hp engine that produces 395 lb-ft of engine torque, the JCB 320T provides plenty of power for the custom profiling planetary drum heads and diamond tooling that Lopez uses to achieve the heavy profiling and shine for which he is known. Lopez also sees great benefit in the incorporable visibility and clean-burning diesel engine requiring no DEF or DPF, for reduced maintenance costs and maximum uptime.

Lopez’s company, A Cut Above Concrete Creations, has grown quickly. Today it employs 50 people and services clients throughout southern California. The company has purchased four JCB skid steers over the past two years, with a fifth soon on its way and plans to purchase additional JCB machines in coming months. As the business continues to grow, the future for A Cut Above Concrete Creations looks as shiny as its newly polished concrete floors.
