Construction equipment manufacturer JCB is celebrating 60 years of making the iconic backhoe loader that has helped to shape the world - with the promise of more exciting innovations to come. Company founder Joseph Cyril Bamford invented the concept of the backhoe and the first JCB model was manufactured in 1953 after he combined a lightweight backhoe with a Major Loadall tractor loader. It created, for the first time, a single machine which combined a front shovel and rear excavator arm.

British digger maker JCB today responded to the Filipino typhoon disaster with the news that machines and generators worth more than $500,000 are to be provided to assist in the aftermath of the catastrophe. The company is sending a fleet of three 3CX backhoe loaders to help in the clear up operations following Typhoon Haiyan which was one of the most powerful storms ever recorded on land and which has left up to 2,500 people dead. In addition more than 120 JCB electrical generators are being provided through the company’s Filipino dealer Camec.

At Bauma Africa 2013, JCB will showcase a broad range of its fuel saving heavyline equipment for the construction and mining industries.
A group for adults with learning disabilities has been thrown a lifeline thanks to a £5,000 donation from JCB. The Uttoxeter Gateway Club relies on grants and funding to host weekly club-based activities to improve members’ social skills and help them build relationships. The JCB donation represents half of the group’s annual running costs and has already paid for a trip to Blackpool, a meal and a disco.
Sheepish is how four top collie dogs are made to feel as the wool is pulled over their eyes in a promotional video for the JCB Agriculture-sponsored International Sheep Dog Trials this September. For in the one-minute film, one brave sheep decides she is more Collie than Kerry Hill and ends up herding the dogs into a pen instead.
A TEENAGER whose childhood nickname was ‘Digger’ has landed his dream role – as an apprentice at JCB. He has joined the company this week as part of a JCB scheme which is creating almost 130 new jobs in the UK.
