The JCB work experience programme has been designed to give work based experience within an office environment at JCB. It enables students to spend one week outside of the class room which will enable them to see how a global business like JCB is run and the different departments within it.

The work experience programme is for 16-18 year olds to undertake one week’s work placement.  It is available in a range of departments, as listed below. JCB will try to place students in departments which suit their skills and interest so that they can gain the most out of the experience.

  • Engineering (Office based)
  • Design and Graphics
  • Sales and Planning
  • Corporate events
  • Purchasing
  • Marketing
  • Human Resources
  • Technical Service

We aim to put students into departments which are aligned to their interests and programme of academic study. The purpose of this work experience programme is to give hands on experience to those who wish to work within JCB in the future or show a keen interest in the departments listed. Students will get to grips with some key aspects of working in a global company which includes daily working habits such as attendance, business working hours and communication. Work experience is increasingly important when applying for jobs and can help students stand out. The JCB employees who you will meet during the process will be more than happy to offer advice regarding future careers that you may be interested in.

The placement will commence with a JCB induction and you will be assigned a placement manager who will be responsible for your key learning, other members of staff may assist to give you an all rounded experience. At the end of the placement there will be time set aside to review your performance and time at JCB; this is also an opportunity to ask further questions or career advice.

Due to the large number of requests we receive, we set weeks throughout the year when work experience is available.

For 2017 - the work experience weeks are:

  • w/c 16th October (JCB Academy only)
  • w/c 23rd October

For 2018 - the available work experience dates are currently under review and will be available to apply for soon.

Ideally, applicants must also live within a 25 mile radius of JCB and are expected to be able to make their own travel arrangements to and from JCB. However, we do accept applicants outside this, but you must advise your plans on your application. Please be aware that you will be required to make your own arrangements for travel and accommodation once accepted onto the Work Experience placement.

Applicants MUST be 16 or over on the first day of their work experience.

'I chose to do my work experience at JCB because engineering is a big interest of mine and JCB is one of the best worldwide companies for engineering. I believe coming to JCB helped me make my mind up about my future; I felt comfortable there and knew I could progress in my life at JCB. My favourite thing about my work experience was the professional atmosphere within the company and how welcome I was made. I decided to become an apprentice at JCB after completing my work experience with them. It’s the best company you can work for and the best decision I have made career wise. If I had to describe my time at JCB in one word it would be life changing'

‘Whilst applying for summer placements, I generally found that they were always preferred to see relevant experience in a chosen field and one thing I always struggled was finding ways to gain this experience. This work experience programme has really helped me gain the experience that I need to improve my CV. Other work experience programmes only catered to those 16-18, but I found JCB’s 18+ programme gave me the chance to gain some real world experience, catered to my age group. One of the other great things about this work experience is that it increased my passion in the JCB products; actually seeing them being produced and working with people who actually design and make this product. This experience was truly inspiring and I hope to work hard so that I am able to get onto either the undergraduate, or graduate schemes.  I would definitely suggest that anyone thinking about applying for the schemes applies for work experience first because it will only make you determination to get to JCB even stronger.'
