Who is the Backhoe Skills Bootcamp suitable for?
The programme is specifically designed to upskill those who are already working within machinery and plant operations and want to progress.
Whether you are looking to upgrade to a new machine or gain more knowledge and experience on the backhoe loader, our programme will offer you the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to progress with your existing employer or future career.
Both individuals and employers looking to upskill their existing workforce can apply.
Who can join the Backhoe Skills Bootcamp?

Whether you are in work, self-employed, unemployed, or returning to work after a break, the Backhoe Skills Bootcamp is open to you. To be eligible for the Skills Bootcamp, you must:
- Be aged 19 or older
- Have the right to work in the UK
- Live in England
How long does the Backhoe Skills Bootcamp last?
The Backhoe Skills Bootcamps run intensively for two weeks throughout January, February and March 2023.
Where will the Backhoe Skills Bootcamp be delivered?
JCB is working in partnership with Flannery Plant Hire to deliver the Backhoe Skills Bootcamps at the purpose-built Operator Skills Hub, which is a joint venture between Flannery and Belfour Beatty. These will be run out of the following locations:

How much does the Backhoe Skills Bootcamp cost?
The course is fully funded for individuals who are looking for a new role with a new employer, as well as self-employed operators.
For employers looking to upskill their existing workforce, the course is partially funded with a small contribution towards the cost of the training required. Employers are also still eligible to the CITB Levy Grant. There is no cost to employers who recruit individuals who have completed the Skills Bootcamp.
How is the Backhoe Skills Bootcamp funded?
The Skills Bootcamps are funded thanks to money from the Department of Education, as part of their ‘Skills For Life’ initiative. This aims to offer free fast-track training in a specialist skill specific to an industry, such as construction, to help fill skills gaps.
